Lecturer: Dr. Isnen Fitri
Isnen Fitri, ST, M.Eng, PhD studied architecture and works as a senior lecturer at Universitas Sumatera Utara, where she is currently the Secretary for the Master Programme of Valuation and Property Management. Her research interests lie in vernacular architecture, the history of architecture, and cultural heritage conservation.
She is currently visiting Austria within the framework of the ASEA Uninet-funded project „Historic Urban Landscape Approach for the Management of Heritage Sites Comparing Medan and Vienna“.

Abstract: In her presentation “The Architectural Heritage of Medan, Sumatra, Indonesia,” Dr Fitri will introduce the diverse architectural heritage of Medan. She will guide us through the layers of Medan’s architectural history, from its colonial legacy to indigenous architectural marvels. In presenting details about the historic centre of Kesawan, Dr Fitri will provide interesting facts as a basis for a discussion about the challenges in conserving Medan’s cultural heritage in the face of dynamic changes, which require sustainable preservation strategies.
