Ki Purbo Asmoro and his Javanese musicians will present an authentic Javanese wayang kulit (Schattenpuppenspiel) on 25 April 2023 in the Minoritensaal in Graz. They will perform the ancient story ‘Arjuna’s Deep Meditation’ – a Javanese story with direct connections to the Mahabharata epic.
Ø The performance will be translated simultaneously into English with interpretative comments by Dr. Kathryn Emerson, wayang scholar and musician who regularly works with Ki Purbo Asmoro, both in and outside of Indonesia.
Ø With seats at the front and back sides of the screen, audience members are encouraged to walk around and view the performance from different perspectives – shadows on one side, musicians and puppeteer on the other.
Ø Ki Purbo Asmoro is one of the most well-known puppeteers currently working in Java. This is a rare opportunity to see a performance of the highest quality here in Graz. It is not to be missed. Tickets available from 01.04.2023 at <kug.ac.at/tickets> and at the door.
